Mark Doyle Hormann, MD, is a distinguished academic leader, educator, and pediatrician currently serving as the Vice Dean for Educational Programs and Professor of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. With more than three decades of experience in medical education and pediatric care, Dr. Hormann has dedicated his career to advancing clinical training, mentoring future physicians, and improving health care delivery.
A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and McGovern Medical School, Dr. Hormann completed his pediatric residency and served as chief resident at McGovern. He has held numerous leadership roles, including Director of Medical Student Education, Director of the Pediatric Residency Program, and Vice Chair for Education and Training in the Department of Pediatrics. Since 2022, he has led the Office of Educational Programs, overseeing curriculum development, accreditation, and clinical education initiatives.
Dr. Hormann is board-certified in pediatrics and has been recognized with numerous teaching awards, including the Herbert and Margaret DuPont Master Clinical Teaching Award and the “Esteemed Educator” designation. He is a member of prestigious organizations such as Alpha Omega Alpha and the Gold Humanism Honor Society, where he also serves as a faculty advisor.
His scholarly work spans clinical research, educational innovation, and authorship of widely used medical texts, including multiple editions of Pediatrics: PreTest Self-Assessment and Review and Case Files: Pediatrics. He has contributed to national efforts in competency-based medical education through the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Core Entrustable Professional Activities Pilot and continues to influence medical education policy and practice through his involvement with the Medical Education Senior Leaders group of the AAMC, the Texas Pediatric Society, and the Texas Medical Association.
In addition to his academic and clinical roles, Dr. Hormann is deeply committed to community service and mentorship, guiding countless students and residents in their professional development. His clinical practice focuses on newborn care at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital.
