Magnetoencephalography (MEG) Fellowship
Director: Michael Funke, MD, PhD
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston has a fellowship in Magnetoencephalography and Surgical Epilepsy. The fellowship position is for one year and begins on July 1st. Applicants must have completed a residency program in neurology or child neurology accredited in the United States or Canada.
The Clinical MEG/Surgical Epilepsy Fellow Program, which is a non ACGME accredited one year training program involving in-depth hands-on data analysis, interpretation and application of advanced diagnostic techniques, with a focus on magnetoencephalography (MEG), electrocorticography (ECoG), intracranial EEG (including both subdural grids and stereo EEG), and cortical mapping. This program is one of only a few such formalized one-year training programs in the U.S. or Canada. Ideally this person would be a 2nd year fellow who has already completed epilepsy fellowship training.
Our program strengths include:
- State of the art MEG system with movement compensation, etc.
- Exposure to both pediatric and adult epilepsy.
- Adult and pediatric epilepsy surgery programs with high volumes of intracranial EEG cases including robotic SEEG and MR guided laser interstitial thermal therapy.
- A collegial academic atmosphere with research opportunities in MEG and epilepsy.
- Great mentorship with frequent and close interactions with the attending staff.
