* A fellow can select two Electives during their second year of training; any additional Elective would need to be in place of Research. Prior approval by the program director is required for any Electives.

- Tropical Medicine Course (Either through Baylor COM or GORGAS Tropical Medicine Course)
- Pediatric Heart and Vascular Intensive Care Unit – Children’s Heart Institute (Site 2)
- Pediatric Infectious Disease Pharmacology (Site 2)
- Infection Control and Prevention (Sites 1, 2, & 5 – part online)
- Antibiotic Stewardship course (Sites 1 & 2 – part online)
- Additional MDA/Transplant/Immunocompromised PID rotation in addition to already required (Site 1, 2, 3)
Call
Fellows take At-Home pager call with faculty backup while on Pediatric Infectious Disease consultation hospital service month and weekend coverage
Weekend Coverage
Fellows cover the Pediatric Infectious disease consultation hospital service 1 to 2 weekends a month while on PID and 1 weekend a month when not on PID service.
Clinic
Fellow continuity 1/2 day per week clinic occurs on Tuesday afternoons or Thursday mornings. First year is done at Site 4 and second year at Site 5. The fellows rotate their clinic days and their supervising faculty to broaden the exposure of various pediatric infectious disease processes and management styles. In their third year, fellows elect which clinic site to attend, including options to attend any of the subspecialty clinics affiliated with our institution.
- Adult HIV/Hepatitis Clinic at Thomas Street clinic
- Travel Medicine clinic
- Pediatric Tuberculosis clinic
- MD Anderson Pediatric or Adult immunocompromised ID clinic
- Pediatric Immunology clinic
- Transplant ID clinic
- Adolescent medicine clinic
- Chronic Lung disease/Cystic Fibrosis clinic – to increase their exposure of infections in patients with chronic lung disease
