Bradley Chi, MD – Faculty Spotlight
Bradley Chi, MD, assistant professor, in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at UTHealth Houston, joined on as faculty in September after doing his fellowship with the department.
Chi began his educational training at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he received his undergraduate education. He enrolled in medical school at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine in New York. He then did an internship year at the University of California at Los Angeles. Finally, he did his residency at Baylor College of Medicine and a brain injury fellowship at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston.
After his fellowship, Chi became faculty at TIRR Memorial Hermann, where he currently runs in an inpatient brain injury inpatient service. He sees primarily general brain injury patients, including traumatic brain injuries, anoxic brain injuries, and other forms of acquired brain injury. Generally, he will treat the patient for about two weeks.
Chi decided to pursue brain injury medicine while he was in medical school. He feels that brain injury medicine builds upon the fundamental aspects of PM&R. One of his goals is to improve the patient’s wellbeing while being treated and after they’ve left the hospital, recognizing that patients will spend the majority of their time at home.
Chi is happy to be at TIRR Memorial Hermann. Becoming a part of the faculty that trained him has been an aspect that has brough him comfort in his transition to faculty.
“I was very excited to become faculty at TIRR,” Chi said. “As I got further in my training, I started to understand more in-depth of what we were doing and why it was so impactful. Having the opportunity to stay here was a blessing that can’t be understated.”
In his spare time, Chi likes to watching sports, especially, his alma mater the Washington Huskies. He also likes the NBA. Outside of sports, Chi likes to spend time with his family and his new young daughter.
