Brain Injury
Brain injury recovery is not a single path. It is personal, complex, and constantly evolving.
A brain injury can affect how a person thinks, feels, communicates, and connects with the world. Changes may be visible or invisible, temporary or lifelong. At UTHealth Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, we recognize that no two brain injuries are the same, and neither are the people living with them.
Our interdisciplinary teams provide specialized care for individuals with traumatic and acquired brain injuries across all stages of recovery. From early hospital care to intensive rehabilitation and long-term outpatient support, we focus on the whole person, addressing cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and physical challenges alongside family and community needs.
Clinical care is tightly integrated with research that seeks to better understand brain recovery and resilience. By combining neuroscience, rehabilitation science, and patient-centered care, we develop and test approaches that improve daily function, support reintegration, and enhance quality of life. Our goal is not only recovery, but helping individuals with brain injury rediscover purpose, independence, and possibility.
