Cryo-EM Core Personnel

Director of the Core Facility: Irina I. Serysheva, Ph.D., Professor

Dr. Serysheva is an established investigator who has dedicated 25+ years of her research career to using cryo-EM to examine macromolecular biological assemblies. She is an expert in high-resolution single-particle cryo-EM of membrane proteins. She is responsible for all organizational and functional aspects of the Core Facility.

 

 

Cryo-EM Facility Manager, TBD

Qualified candidates should have PhD (or MS) in structural biology, biochemistry or related field, at least 2 years experience in cryo-EM, including specimen preparation. Effective communication skills are necessary; will oversee the day-to-day operation of cryo-EM facility, General maintenance of microscopes, maintain ancillary, cryo-EM sample preparation equipment, will be directly involved in data collection.

 

Cryo-EM Specialist: Mariah R. Baker, Ph.D., Research Assistant Professor

Mariah has over a decade of experience with structural biology of ion channels; She provides assistance and troubleshooting on cryo-EM experiments; She manages Web-based project application system, and coordinates communications with applicants and approved Users. She monitors communications for active projects to ensure that there are no perceived project delays.

 

Cryo-EM Specialist: Guizhen Fan, Ph.D., Research Assistant Professor

Guizhen is an expert in cryo-EM data acquisition and image analysis; She is responsible for high-resolution cryo-EM data acquisition and specimen preparation, consults on high resolution imaging projects, assist users in cryo-EM data evaluation to facilitate high-resolution structure determination.

 

Technical Manager: Venkata (Siddhu) Mallmapalli M.S.

Siddhu handles the daily operations of the Core’s electron cryo-microscopes, including autogrid clipping, setup for data acquisition and routine microscope alignments. He assists Core personnel on different aspects including cryospecimen preparations, orders, and general maintenance of the Core Facility.

Research Assistant: Mehdi Zarei, M.S.

Mehdi handles the daily operations for the Cryo-TEM 200Kv Glacios microscope.

 

 

 

 

Financial Officer: Martha Belmares, MBA

She has experience in Research Administration (Pre and Post Award), budgeting, financial reporting. She is responsible for the Cryo-EM Service Core billing.
