Summer Research Program Application

The program begins on Monday, June 8, 2026, and concludes on Thursday, July 2, 2026.   The application deadline for the summer of 2026 was January 15, 2026.  Successful applicants will join laboratories based on their preferred choices. Didactic courses covering introductory principles and techniques of laboratory biochemistry and molecular biology will be held on Monday mornings (9 AM-12 PM). Fridays will be reserved for student-driven seminars and workshops with lunch served.  The $3,800 fee includes registration and lab coats. Housing is not provided.

High school students at least 16 years of age by the start of the program are eligible to apply.  The online application for is shown below.  Ideal candidates will be juniors or seniors who have a strong interest in pursuing a career in biomedical sciences or medicine.  You will be requested to provide:

  • High school transcripts:  Your high school transcripts can be uploaded as a PDF, scanned image, or other file format.  If uploading fails due to an unacceptable file format, please upload a screenshot of your transcript or email the file to Dr. John Putkey ([email protected]).
  • Letters of reference: You must request two letters of reference.  The referees should send their letters directly to Dr. John Putkey ([email protected]). One referee may be a person you know personally, preferably a professional in medicine or biomedical research.
