- Family Medicine Inpatient Service Memorial Hermann Hospital (one month)
Inpatient Family Medicine at MHH at TMC supervised by UTP Family Medicine faculty. Day team consists of a PGY1, PGY2, and PGY3. Night team consists of a PGY1 and PGY3. Schedule for PGY2s is standard inpatient schedule of 6 shifts a week. - Family Medicine Inpatient Service LBJ Hospital (two months)
LBJ days: Inpatient Family Medicine at LBJ supervised by UT Family Medicine faculty in Harris Health. Day team consists of a PGY1, PGY2, and PGY3 with one day of PGY1 and PGY2. Schedule is standard inpatient schedule of 6 shifts a week.
LBJ nights: Night team consists of a PGY1 and PGY2. PGY2 is responsible for overseeing 3-4 admits a night. Schedule for is standard inpatient schedule of 6 night shifts a week. Admissions come from many of the Harris County Hospital District Clinics, including our two continuity clinics, as well as directly from the Emergency Room. - Geriatrics (one month)
This long-term care rotation takes place with select days at St. Dominic’s Village, a 330-bed facility. The first two weeks are with the Palliative and Geriatric Medicine team at LBJ General Hospital. The second two weeks are in Harris Health’s outpatient geriatric clinics and Harris Health House Calls program. You will become familiar with the physiology of aging and geriatric medical management. - Cardiology (one month)
One-month on inpatient cardiology consults at LBJ hospital. Residents will learn to triage cardiology consults and have the opportunity to participate in conducting stress tests. The team is led by the cardiology fellows. - Newborn/Obstetrics Nights (one month)
- First two weeks on LBJ newborn nursery with the pediatric residents. Schedule is standard inpatient schedule of 6 shifts a week. Second two weeks is OB nights with last two weekends cross-covering the Family Medicine inpatient service at LBJ (Fri and Sat night shifts).
- Community Medicine (one month)
Residents complete a Quality Improvement project, gain experience in occupational medicine, as well as home visits. There is dedicated time for reading and scholarly activity. - Elective 2 (one month)
- Family Medicine Continuity Clinic (one month)
A rotation dedicated to outpatient services at the resident’s assigned continuity clinic. Half of a day to one day at the residency office completing ABFM SAM modules and other academic work. - Obstetrics (one month)
More time is spent managing labor in L&D than during the PGY 1 rotation. Rotation is at LBJ Hospital for four twelve-hour shifts per week. - Psychiatry (one month)
Residents rotate on the psychiatric consult liaison service at LBJ hospital. Residents will be part of a team seeing inpatient consults and responding to in-house crisis interventions. There is also one afternoon dedicated with the family medicine clinical psychologist in psychotherapy sessions at UTP. - Elective 2 & 3 (one month)
Choose from a wide variety of rotations and experiences. Popular rotations include Procedures, Outpatient Neurology, Endocrinology, Women’s Health, Radiology, ER, and Nephrology, or additional continuity clinic month.
