Jay McVean, Executive Director

Jay McVean (external link) is the Executive Director of the Healthcare Billing Compliance Department. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Angelo State University (external link) in San Angelo, TX. After graduating college, he and his wife Michelle, relocated to the Houston area and now call Dickinson home. They have two amazing boys, both of whom keep them quite busy with competitive soccer.

Jay has 20 years of Healthcare experience, with 12 of those years being in his current role here at UTHealth Houston (external link). Prior to that, he was the Manager of Compliance Education at MD Anderson Cancer Center (external link) for 3 years. Jay has also worked as an Officer Manager for a Neurology practice.  As well as a supervisor over billing and insurance verification with an Infusion Therapy practice. In the course of his career, he has obtained the following credentials:

• CPC (Certified Professional Coder) (external link) certification through the (AAPC) American Academy of Professional Coders, and
• (OHCC) Officer of Healthcare Compliance certification (external link) through (AIHC) the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance.

Over the years Jay has presented at the AAPC National Conference (external link).  He also presents annually at the HCCA Clinical Practice Compliance Conference. In his downtime, Jay can be found coaching both of his son’s soccer teams. The family also loves to travel together. They don’t take vacations, they have adventures!! The McVean family can be found ziplining through the mountains, whitewater rafting down a chilly river, or snorkeling in some clear tropical waters.
