Maria Vazquez, CCA, Neurology, PM&R, AHF

Maria Vazquez is a Compliance Coding Analyst for Neurology, AHF, and PM&R. She’s been with UT Health-Houston for 10 years. Born in Puerto Rico, Maria moved to Deer Park Texas at the age of 11. She is fluent in English and Spanish, and is in the process of learning Mandarin. A trip to Taiwan to immerse herself in the language and culture, is on the bucket list! Maria attended Indian River State College in Florida, and San Jacinto College here in Houston. She holds an AAS degree in Health Information Management.

Maria obtained the following certifications:

•  Coding and Billing Certificate
•  AHIMA:  CCS and RHIT
• AAPC:  CPC (Certified Professional Coder)

Areas of expertise include medical coding and billing, documentation review, provider education, and a proficiency in the following Classification Coding Systems:

• • ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and CDT Codes

Maria strives to stay up to date and provide the most current information to our providers, and works towards bettering herself both professionally and personally.

Maria gives her best and takes pride in helping our institution stay compliant with laws and regulations. Providers see Maria, and our department, as an asset and a source of accurate information and expedient help.

On the personal side, Maria is the oldest of 9 siblings. She has 3 children (2 sons, and a daughter), a Marine son-in-law, and a granddaughter. In her spare time, she loves to listen to a variety of music, reads self-improvement books, and fiction mysteries. She loves SciFi, documentaries, and science shows.
