MicroCT Imaging

The MicroCT Imaging Facility houses a Bruker SkyScan 1276 CMOS edition micro-computed tomography (microCT) system that supports both in vivo and ex vivo imaging of small animals and specimens.

The SkyScan 1276 provides variable magnification and low-dose imaging suitable for ex vivo/specimens or in vivo studies. The instrument provides high-resolution 3D visualization of bone, teeth, soft tissues with contrast agents, implanted devices, etc.

  • In vivo and ex vivo microCT imaging of specimens up to the size of an adult rat.
  • Round and helical scanning with spatial resolution down to 3 micron voxel (ex vivo).
  • Quantitative analysis of bone microarchitecture, tissue density, and 3D morphology.

Sean Marrelli, PhD is the facility director and oversees facility operation. Dr. Marrelli also provides consultation regarding imaging protocols and project design.

Ting Wu, PhD is the facility manager and oversees daily operations, user training, and instrument management.
