UTHealth Houston Spanish-Language Brain Tumor Clinic

At our Spanish-Language Brain Tumor Clinic, we specialize in diagnosing and treating patients with brain and spine tumors in their native language with greater cultural consideration. Many of our physicians and clinical and administrative staff members are fluent in Spanish. Our collaborative approach allows patients and their families to receive the best possible care in the language most comfortable to them as they navigate their health care journey. We prioritize inclusion by providing other Spanish-language resources, including information on diagnostic options and treatment plans.

Leading the clinic is Dr. Yoshua Esquenazi, a UTHealth Houston Neurosciences neurosurgeon who graduated valedictorian from medical school at the Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City. He participated in student exchange rotations at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the William J. Harrington Medical Training Programs for Latin America at the University of Miami School of Medicine.

During residency, he worked in the medical school’s neuroimaging and electrophysiology lab and completed a fellowship in epilepsy surgery. He then completed a neurosurgery oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

Dr. Esquenazi uses brain mapping for awake craniotomies, stereotactic laser ablation, intraventricular endoscopy, stereotactic navigation and fluorescent microscopy for better outcomes for patients with brain tumors.

Why Choose the Spanish-Language Brain Tumor Clinic

We distinguish ourselves through our collaboration, deep expertise, and state-of-the-art treatment options, all delivered by a bilingual team of highly trained health care providers dedicated to serving the Spanish-speaking population. Our center serves both Hispanic patients in region as well as those who travel internationally for care at our world-class institution. We can also facilitate care at UTHealth Houston’s other specialized treatment clinics, as need, including the Pituitary Tumor and Vision Change Clinic and the Skull Base Program.

In addition to starting the Spanish-Language Brain Tumor Clinic, Dr. Esquenazi serves as the co-director of the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Program. Gamma Knife® radiosurgery is a leading-edge, minimally invasive procedure that uses highly targeted radiation to treat brain tumors, blood vessel malformations, and nerve conditions. UTHealth has performed more than 8,000 Gamma Knife procedures and now uses the advanced Leksell Gamma Knife Icon™. The center also utilizes the Varian EdgeTM linear accelerator, a powerful cancer-fighting technology that offers higher doses of radiation in shorter sessions. Our team will develop the best possible treatment plan for your specific case.
