Board-certified otolaryngologist Michael Byrd, MD, has joined the medical staff of Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital from Albany ENT and Allergy Services in Albany, New York. In his new role, Dr. Byrd, who is also assistant professor in Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School, will bring tertiary-care expertise to patients in the communities surrounding Memorial Hermann Southeast, which will serve as the primary focus of his practice.
“Memorial Hermann’s acute care presence across Houston and the addition of Dr. Byrd to our team has allowed us to extend our otorhinolaryngology expertise and capabilities outside the Texas Medical Center,” says Martin J. Citardi, MD, FACS, professor and chair of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the UTHealth Medical School and chief of otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center.
“I’m happy to join UTHealth ENT to establish an ENT office on the campus of Memorial Hermann Southeast,” Dr. Byrd says. “I look forward to providing comprehensive ENT services to this community. On a personal level, my family and I are sure to enjoy the warm Texas hospitality and weather.”
Prior to joining Albany ENT and Allergy Services, Dr. Byrd was on staff at Cleveland Clinic’s Head and Neck Institute in the department of Otolaryngology and Communicative Disorders. He received his medical degree at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta in 2000. After medical school, he pursued ENT training at Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Byrd will provide general ENT services for both adult and pediatric patients at the Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital campus. He has a subspecialty interest in the ENT conditions that contribute to sleep disorders, including common snoring and obstructive sleep apnea conditions.
In addition, UTHealth Audiology will provide diagnostic audiology services – hearing tests and other services – as well as hearing-aid dispensing. The office will feature the latest clinical technology, including full integration with the department’s electronic medical record and patient image archive. Other faculty members from the department also will see patients at the new office.
