Head and neck surgical oncologist Kunal S. Jain, MD, has been promoted to associate professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He joined the department in 2015 and is director of head and neck surgical oncology at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, part of Harris Health System.
Dr. Jain earned his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He completed residency training at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. He joined the faculty at McGovern Medical School and medical staff of Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center after completing a fellowship in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Jain was named a Texas Super Doctors Rising Star in 2017, 2018, and 2019, and a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in 2021 and 2022
Dr. Jain treats patients with benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, including throat cancer, oral cancer, larynx cancer, locally advanced skin cancer, salivary gland tumors, and thyroid/parathyroid disease, and performs reconstructive surgery, including microvascular reconstruction. He spent a year in fellowship to learn robotic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, where the technology was pioneered, and performs minimally invasive transoral robotic surgery for throat cancer patients.
