Congratulations to Our 2023 Graduating Residents
Sai Challapalli, MD, and Arturo Eguia, MD, have completed their residencies in comprehensive otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Dr. Challapalli leaves the department to begin fellowship training in facial reconstruction and plastic surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Eguia will go on to fellowship in head and neck surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.
“We are proud of the accomplishments of both our graduates during their five years with us and are pleased to see them pursuing their career goals in the form of fellowship training. They were both an absolute joy to work with,” says William C. Yao, MD, program director of the otorhinolaryngology residency and an associate professor in the department. “Both doctors are headed to premier fellowships to become experts in their respective fields.”
Dr. Challapalli received her bachelor’s and medical degree at St. Louis University, where she was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society. During her residency, she has been awarded grants in health advocacy and was voted Resident of the Year in 2021. She has written multiple articles published in journals such as Current Opinion in Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, American Journal of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck, Cancer Control, and Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine.
Dr. Eguia earned his bachelor’s degree at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and medical degree at McGovern Medical School. During his residency, he was instrumental in running a complex head and neck service. He also has written articles published in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery, American Journal of Otolaryngology, and International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology.
