Congratulations to Our Graduating Residents

graduating residents Jumah Ahmad, MD, Karim Asi, MD, and Sean McKee, MDJumah Ahmad, MD, Karim Asi, MD, and Sean McKee, MD, have completed their residency training in comprehensive otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Dr. Ahmad leaves the Department of Otorhinolaryngology to begin fellowship training in neurotology at the University of Utah. Dr. Asi will go on to Emory University at a laryngology fellow, and Dr. McKee will continue his training as a neurorhinology fellow at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School.

“We are proud of the accomplishments of our three graduates during their five years with us and are pleased to see them pursuing their career goals. All three made amazing contributions to the care of our patients and our basic science and clinical research programs,” says William C. Yao, MD, program director of the otorhinolaryngology residency and an associate professor in the department. “Moreover, being able to forge professional and personal relationships with the three graduating chief residents is the most enjoyable part of being involved in education.”

Dr. Ahmad received his bachelor’s degree at The University of Texas at Austin and completed medical training at McGovern Medical School. During his residency, he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and had multiple research articles published in Otology & Neurotology; Ear, Nose & Throat Journal; and the American Journal of Otolaryngology. He made oral presentations at multiple national conferences.

Dr. Asi also is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin who completed medical school and residency training at McGovern Medical School. He has participated in a variety of research projects in the field of laryngology and in rhinology, while also presenting research at national conferences.

Dr. McKee earned his undergraduate degree at Pennsylvania State University and graduated from medical school at the State University of New York-Downstate in Brooklyn. He has worked on a machine-learning project that led to presentations at national conferences.
