Three New Residents Join the Team in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

New residents Hannah DellaCroce, MD, Abigail Watson, MD, and Andrea Zhang, MDMembers of the Otolaryngology Residency Class of 2029 at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston have arrived in Houston from Louisiana, South Carolina, and Massachusetts. The department’s new residents are Hannah DellaCroce, MD, a native of Metairie, Louisiana, who graduated from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans; Abigail Watson, MD, a native of Palos Verdes, California, and a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina in Florence; and Andrea Zhang, MD, a Houston native who graduated from Boston University School of Medicine.

“Our selection this year was challenging because we had so many well-qualified applicants,” says William C. Yao, MD, associate professor of otorhinolaryngology and director of the otolaryngology residency program. “We were successful in recruiting three stellar future otolaryngologists with outstanding scholastic accolades and academic achievements. I am very pleased to be able to work with these individuals and am confident they will become great ambassadors for our residency program. We’ve seen a steady rise in the reputation of our residency at the national level.”

The McGovern Medical School Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residency Training Program provides experience in the subspecialties of bronchoesophagology, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck surgery, laryngology, maxillofacial trauma, otology and neuro-otology, pediatric otolaryngology, and rhinology as well as audiology and speech pathology. Over the course of their five years at the institution, residents have opportunities for both formal and informal educational experiences, with a graduated increase in responsibility for education and patient care in line with their demonstrated clinical skills.

The new residents will have clinical rotations at the department’s state-of-the-art outpatient office at Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza, local surgery centers, and major hospitals including Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, a quaternary referral center and Level 1 trauma center; Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, part of the Harris Health System; The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center; and Houston Methodist Hospital.
