August 6, 2024

Ali Jafar, MDAli Jafar, MD, has completed a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Texas Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. A native of Kuwait, he will return to Kuwait University’s Faculty of Medicine as an assistant professor with joint appointments in otolaryngology with the Division of Facial Plastic Surgery and in rhinology in the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Jafar received his medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, in 2014, where he was recognized with the Fitzsimons Gold Medal in Surgery and graduated with first-class honors. He went on to complete a Master of Science in Surgical and Interventional Sciences at University College London in the United Kingdom. He completed internship training at Kuwait Institute of Medical Specialization in Kuwait City, followed by residency training in otolaryngology at the University of Ottawa in Canada. He completed a fellowship in neurorhinology and advanced endoscopic sinus surgery at the Texas Sinus Institute at UTHealth Houston.

As an American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellow, Dr. Jafar worked closely in clinic and in the operating room with Tang Ho, MD, director of the Texas Center for Facial Plastic Surgery and chief of facial plastic surgery in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology. He benefited from Dr. Ho’s specialized expertise in aesthetic and functional rhinoplasty, facial reanimation after facial paralysis, facial rejuvenation, microvascular surgery, and major facial reconstruction after cancer surgery or trauma.

“Working with Dr. Ho and Dr. Kao has been a transformative journey that equipped me with invaluable expertise and also instilled in me a profound sense of autonomy and the importance of finesse and precision,” he says. “From the intricacies of cosmetic facial plastics to the complexities of reconstructive head and neck surgeries, every case has served as a testament to the multifaceted nature of the field. As Dr. Ho often reminded me, ‘If it were easy, everyone could do it, but we are not everyone.’ These words have resonated within me, fueling my determination to push the boundaries. I’m grateful for the foundation laid by this fellowship.”

“Dr. Jafar has carried on our tradition of training excellent fellows in facial plastic surgery,” Dr. Ho says. “He’s been wonderful to work with and has a great bedside manner. I’m excited that he’ll be utilizing the skills he has acquired during the fellowship in his future career.”
