Dr. Ron Karni Named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for 2024

Ron Karni, MDRon J. Karni, MD, chief of the Division of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and an associate professor who holds joint appointments in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and the Division of Hematology/Oncology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, has been named among Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors for 2024. Top Doctors, who represent the top 7% of all physicians practicing in the United States, are considered best-in-class health care providers, demonstrating excellence in clinical care as well as interpersonal skills.

Dr. Karni received his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine and completed residency training at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He focuses his practice on management of human papilloma virus-associated oropharynx cancer; thyroid and parathyroid disorders; diagnostic ultrasonography and fine-needle aspiration of head and neck masses; transoral surgery for throat, larynx, and oral cavity cancer; and salivary gland tumors. He performs more than 150 thyroid and parathyroid surgical procedures each year and leads a multidisciplinary ultrasound-guided aspiration biopsy clinic for thyroid nodules. He also implants the Inspire® therapy device for hypoglossal nerve stimulation in patients who are eligible. Dr. Karni is the author of peer-reviewed publications on robotic head and neck surgery, rehabilitation after head and neck treatment, workup of the occult head and neck cancer, and integrating evidence-based methods in otolaryngology.
