Zhen “Jane” Huang, MD, MBA, CPO, associate professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, has been named by her peers as a Top Doctor for 2024 by Houstonia magazine. The annual list is compiled based on nominations from 15,000 board-certified physicians practicing in the Houston area.
Dr. Huang was born in southern China and moved to Dallas with her family at the age of seven. After graduating as valedictorian, she continued her education at Dartmouth College as a Presidential Scholar majoring in psychology. She earned a combined MD/MBA at Dartmouth as a recipient of the Dr. Hampers Leaders in Healthcare Scholarship. After spending close to a decade in New England, Dr. Huang returned to Texas and completed residency training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. She went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C.
In 2022, she completed subcertification requirements for complete pediatric otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Subcertification in CPO recognizes pediatric otolaryngologists who complete additional training, successfully demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills beyond primary certification, and maintain an ongoing clinical practice within the subspecialty. The criteria that define CPO clinical practice include practice setting, case types, and participation in multidisciplinary activities.
Dr. Huang is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese and has a strong interest in improving health care delivery and population health. Her clinical interests are broad and include sleep-disordered breathing, congenital neck masses, open and endoscopic pediatric airway surgery, chronic ear disorders and hearing loss, and pediatric voice disorders. She has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor every year since 2021 and a Texas Super Doctors Rising Star in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2024.
