Dr. Karim Asi, an assistant professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UTHealth Houston, is a fellowship-trained laryngologist. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from The University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Asi came to Houston and McGovern Medical School at UTHealth to continue his education. Following medical school, he stayed on at UTHealth to complete his otorhinolaryngology residency. During this time, he was honored as Resident of the Year.
An interest in laryngology led him to a year of fellowship training at the Emory Voice Center in Atlanta, Georgia. His time there and at the Emory University Hospitals and the Grady Medical Center gave him expertise in professional voice care, laryngeal cancer, disorders of the vocal cords, and other conditions affecting the throat.
Dr. Asi is the co-author of many articles and abstracts on a variety of topics. He has also given a number of presentations and been involved in panel discussions.
He is a member of a number of local, regional, and national organizations, including the Harris County Medical Society, the Texas Association of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, and the National Arab American Medical Association.
Dr. Asi is fluent in English, Spanish and Arabic.
Dr. Asi is fellowship-trained in laryngology specialized training in care for the professional voice, vocal fold paralysis, spasmodic dysphonia, management of early-stage laryngeal cancer, benign vocal fold lesions, respiratory papillomatosis, tracheal stenosis, laryngeal stenosis, swallowing disorders, and numerous other conditions affecting the throat.
He is also interested in in surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, salivary gland diseases, tonsil and adenoid diseases, as well as conditions of the nose and paranasal sinuses.
