Dr. Michael McDowell was born and raised in metro Detroit and received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University. During that time, he studied physiology/psychology and ethics, which drove his passion for providing comprehensive clinical care. He then attended medical school at Kansas City University and attained a master’s of ethics. During this time, he continued to pursue his passion for complex physiology and became interested in pursuing pediatric pulmonary medicine. He trained in Pediatrics at Children’s Mercy in Kansas City and pursued a Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. During his fellowship, he was exposed to complex cardiopulmonary medicine through his training in pulmonary hypertension. He became passionate about providing these patients with high-quality care and pursued his research in evaluating outcomes of patients with lung disease receiving prostacyclin therapy. He looks forward to continuing to build on this passion for caring for these patients and providing a healthy training environment for the fellows and residents he interacts with. He enjoys spending time at home with his husband and two dogs, working out, bike riding, and being a huge sci-fi nerd.
