Advanced Practice Providers

About us

Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are trusted medical providers that include certified registered nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), clinical nurse specialists (CNS), certified nurse midwives (CNM), and certified nurse anesthetists (CRNA). They hold advanced degrees and play an essential role in the care of patients. They are qualified to work in any area of the hospital or clinic and provide care in both primary and acute care services. With the supervision of a physician, APP’s can diagnose, treat medical conditions, and perform procedures within their scope of practice. APPs may also perform clinical research, participate in quality improvement projects, mentor and train APP student learners, and lead initiatives in the health system and community.

Here at the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), we employ approximately 60 APPs in The Department of Pediatrics. All of our APPs hold a master’s degree or doctorate and are board certified to practice at an advanced level by a national certifying organization.

From our inpatient hospital and intensive care units, to more than 20 pediatric care clinics, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth APPs work diligently to provide the best care by utilizing and practicing evidenced based medicine.
