James Murphy, PhD, professor and research director of Pediatric Infectious Diseases Division

Dr. James Murphy’s research interests center on the immunobiology of infectious diseases and include studies of mechanisms of immunity, application of immunological methodology to the diagnosis and treatment of infections with particular emphasis on vaccine development, testing and deployment. His studies include bench science, clinical trials including induced infections in volunteers and studies of infectious agents endemic in populations in Asia, Africa and South America. He has resided in developing countries for over 6 years and has been the Associate Editor of the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and a member of numerous review and advisory boards. He currently oversees and coordinates the research efforts of the Division and directs the HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) research program.
