Biography

Olaniyi Olayinka, MD, MPH is an assistant professor in the Faillace Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and a board-certified psychiatrist at UTHealth Houston Harris County Psychiatric Center (HCPC) since July 2022. Olayinka is primarily involved in the care of dually diagnosed individuals at HCPC.

Olayinka is a scholar of the NIDA-funded Research in Addiction Medicine Scholar Program and completed an addiction psychiatry fellowship at Yale School of Medicine. Prior to residency training, he trained with the CDC as an applied epidemiology post-doc during which he investigated state-wide outbreaks of synthetic cannabinoid exposure. Olayinka recently completed the Yale School of Management Executive Education in Healthcare Management.

His research interests are mainly: (1) the epidemiology of co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders and (2) finding effective treatments for dually diagnosed individuals.
