Dr. Mirza is a dedicated and licensed child & adolescent psychiatrist who is committed to providing comprehensive mental health care to her patients. She has a strong background in both general psychiatry and child & adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Mirza believes in taking a developmental approach to mental health, recognizing the unique challenges and needs that arise during childhood and adolescence. She specializes in addressing a wide range of mental health issues that can affect young individuals, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorders, behavioral disorders, impulse control disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bipolar disorders, psychotic disorders, adjustment disorders, developmental disorders, trauma and stressor-related disorders, and personality disorders.
Dr. Mirza holds a significant role at UTHealth as the unit director of an inpatient psychiatric unit at the Harris County Psychiatric Center. In this capacity, she oversees the provision of specialized care to adolescents who are under the custody of Texas’ Department of Family and Protective Services. Dr. Mirza, alongside a team of dedicated professionals, plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of the START Program (Successful Transition for Adolescents—Recovery Trajectories) specifically designed to address the unique needs of this patient population. She collaborates closely with her team to create a supportive and therapeutic environment that promotes recovery, resilience, and successful transitions for these vulnerable individuals.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Mirza is deeply involved in her community and engages in volunteer activities that promote mental health awareness and support underserved populations.
