Nesreen S. Ibrahim, MD is a Dual Board-Certified General and Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, and an ISSP-Certified Sports and Performance Psychiatrist. She currently serves as the Medical Director of the Children’s Memorial Hermann Child Psychiatry Consult & Liaison Services and is the Program Director of Sports and Performance Psychiatry at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

Dr. Ibrahim is an Assistant Professor in the Louis A. Faillace, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at McGovern Medical School. She has a robust clinical expertise in treatment of various conditions such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and complex comorbid psychiatric conditions in pediatric and adult populations. Notably, she brings particular expertise in the mental health care of elite athletes, including NCAA and professional competitors.

She is a strong advocate for the enhancement of mental health and performance skills. Her approach integrates psychological resilience training, cognitive enhancement, and stress recovery techniques into the care of high-performing individuals. She emphasizes preventive and performance-focused interventions such as sleep optimization, mindfulness-based strategies, and cognitive skill development. She also works closely with injured athletes, providing mental health support throughout their recovery. Her goal is to help them rebuild confidence, prepare psychologically, and ensure they are emotionally and cognitively ready to return to sport following physical rehabilitation.

In addition to her clinical and programmatic leadership, Dr. Ibrahim is deeply committed to medical education and mentorship. She trains and mentors learners at all levels—including medical students, residents, child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, and pediatric neurology fellows—while also developing one of the nation’s few structured Sports Psychiatry curricula for psychiatry trainees.

In addition, Dr Ibrahim is a delegate to the Harris County Medical Society Delegation to the Texas Medical Association House of Delegates, serves as an expert panelist for the Texas Medical Board, and also serves as an expert witness in civil legal cases involving psychiatric issues, offering consultation and expert opinion in complex forensic matters related to mental health.
