Biography

Eric Sumlin, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at McGovern Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He is a licensed psychologist and provides inpatient clinical services across the Harris County Psychiatric Center and the Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center. His primary clinical interests include the treatment of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, non-suicidal self-injury, and personality pathology.

Dr. Sumlin earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston. He completed his predoctoral internship at Baylor College of Medicine/Ben Taub Hospital within the Child and Adolescent track, and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine/Ben Taub Hospital within the Anti-Human Trafficking track. Dr. Sumlin has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults, and specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT), and Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS).
