The UTHealth Houston Center for Interventional Psychiatry specializes in the evaluation and treatment of severe, complex, and treatment-resistant psychiatric conditions. The Center focuses on illnesses associated with significant symptom burden, functional impairment, and elevated clinical risk—particularly when standard treatments have been ineffective, poorly tolerated, or insufficient.

Our clinical expertise focuses on conditions for which advanced interventional and neuromodulation-based treatments are essential. Care is delivered within a matched-care framework that integrates comprehensive assessment, appropriate level-of-care placement, and evidence-based treatment selection.

The Center provides specialized care for individuals with:

• Treatment-resistant depression, including chronic, recurrent, or severe depressive illness
• Treatment-resistant bipolar disorder, including depressive and manic presentations
• Treatment-resistant schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders
• Treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder
• Catatonia, across mood, psychotic, and medical etiologies
• Severe suicidality, including acute and persistent suicidal ideation or behavior
• Other treatment-resistant neuropsychiatric symptoms requiring specialized intervention

Patients with these conditions often require timely access to advanced treatments, careful monitoring, and coordinated care across outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, or inpatient settings. The Center’s integrated model allows for flexible movement across levels of care as clinical needs change.
