Substance Use Counseling
The HEARTS@UTHealth Houston program, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), aims to bring awareness and relief to clients, with free client-centered counseling to address substance use disorders and other mental health conditions. The HEARTS program is an outpatient treatment program for problematic substance use and substance use disorders. Services are offered in person or virtually (i.e. telehealth).
The goals of counseling can include setting goals, addressing the difficulties associated with behavioral change, developing or strengthening coping skills, and increasing resiliency. The program uses evidence based treatment modalities which include, but are not limited to:
- Motivational Interviewing
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Seeking Safety
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
