Study Participation

Our lab is currently recruiting participants for multiple ongoing research projects. If you are interested in contributing to our studies, we encourage you to contact us at [email protected].

We are specifically seeking participants for two EEG/MRI experiments, both of which involve 2-4 visits to UTHealth. We are looking for healthy individuals and clinical participants aged 18 to 50. Participants will be compensated with a cash payment and provided with an MR image of their brain. To participate in our research, we kindly request that you complete an online questionnaire to determine your eligibility. Further information about the experiments, including the eligibility screeners, can be found below.

PTSD Study:
Our PTSD experiment investigates the use of non-invasive electrical stimulation as a potential treatment for PTSD. To address common inquiries regarding the stimulation and the experiment, please refer to our PTSD Study FAQ page. The first visit involves a clinical interview and an introduction to the experimental procedures. The second visit will include both an EEG and an MRI session, along with a brief 20- minute period of electrical stimulation. Participants will receive compensation at a rate of $20 per hour, with the potential to earn approximately $190 in total.
Additionally, participants will receive an MR image of their brain. If you are interested in participating in this research, we invite you to complete our
PTSD screening questionnaire. Upon completion, we will review your eligibility and provide further instructions via email.

Chronic Pain Study:
We are currently recruiting participants for an experiment that examines how chronic pain is processed in the brain. To achieve this, we will apply pressure to your right calf using an inflatable cuff for six minutes while you undergo an MRI scan. Common questions regarding the cuff and the experiment are addressed in our Pain FAQ Page. During the first session, various levels of pressure will be applied to identify a suitable level that simulates mild, chronic pain. Once an appropriate pressure is determined, it will be applied for six minutes to ensure your comfort during  the MRI scan. The second session will involve an EEG and MRI, during which the cuff will be alternately inflated and deflated. Participants will receive compensation at a rate of $25 per hour,  with the potential to earn approximately $75 in total. If you are interested in participating in this research, we invite you to complete the Chronic Pain Study eligibility questionnaire. After you  have completed the screener, we will review your eligibility and provide further instructions via email.
