The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences welcomes visitors who are not compensated by UTHealth and students who are not enrolled in UTHealth educational programs to participate in an approved collaborative or educational training for a specific period of time.
Prospective visitors may apply under one of the following five categories:
|Observers: Individuals who observe university operations for their own educational or training purposes||$250|
|Pre-Baccalaureate Trainees: High school or undergraduate students who seek hands on training and experience in preparation for a health sciences education.||$300|
|Professional Trainees: Professionals who hold an undergraduate or higher degree and seek additional hands-on training in the health sciences.|
This program includes twelve interactive lectures on relevant topics in psychiatry residency education, such as diagnosis, treatment modalities (psychopharmacology and psychotherapy) and neuroscience. Trainees will also be provided with critical tools to enhance their performance in the residency interview process.

|Visiting Student Trainees: Students who receive hands on training from UTHealth faculty and staff, but are not registered and enrolled in a course at UTHealth. To be qualified for this category, the Visiting Student Trainee must be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or professional degree program at another institution and the training at UTHealth must fulfill an educational requirement of the program.||Free|
|Visiting Scientists: Scientists who collaborate with UTHealth faculty and staff while being employed and paid by another institution. Applications will be reviewed on a case by case basis.||Free|
How to Apply
This process is only for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Applications must be submitted at least 6 weeks in advance of the desired start date.
- Prospective visitors must first secure faculty sponsorship and send their resume and areas of interests to our Visiting Educational Programs Coordinator.
- Our coordinator will review the application instructions with the applicant and help determine the appropriate category to apply under.
- Beginning with the first page of the application (not including the directions), the applicant must complete pages 1-4 and attach all supporting documentation.
- Once completed, the necessary documents must be forwarded to the coordinator for further processing.
Important Notice: A non-refundable application processing fee will be charged by the university to all Foreign Observers and Foreign Professional Trainees.
