Biography

Lokesh Shahani, MD, PhD, MPH, FACP, FASAM, is an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. His interests include substance use disorders and HIV psychiatry.

Shahani has a MPH in Public Health from the School of Public Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He completed a combined residency program in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He also did a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Baylor College of Medicine and a Health Services Research Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. Dr. Shahani is currently working towards a Ph.D. in Healthcare Management. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has over 45 publications in peer-reviewed journals and presented his work nationally.
