Umair Hemani, DO, assistant professor of psychiatry, is combining technology with medicine to meet the mental health care needs of patients throughout Texas. Through the department’s new telemedicine program, he provides adult psychiatric services, primarily competency restoration, at North Texas State Hospital. The hospital is the largest mental healthcare facility in the Texas, with two campuses in Wichita Falls and Vernon, serving patients with severe mental illnesses.
A recent graduate of our residency program, Hemani believes that telemedicine will have a significant impact on the future of psychiatry. His interest in technology led him to telemedicine, which he believes has improved clinical care, increased efficiency and helped to reach a previously underserved population. As a clinician, Hemani is passionate about caring for his patients and being their advocate.
