How to Apply
Applicants will be accepted through the APPIC Match process. The ideal applicant has experience with the populations served in the track(s) to which they are applying, has significant experience with evidence-based assessment and interventions, and is seeking a program that emphasizes integration of research and practice and service to underserved communities.
UTHealth Doctoral Psychology Internship Program is a Generalist training program that trains interns to work in multiple settings with experience across the lifespan. The five tracks available are Addictions/Community (match number 229411), Trauma (match number 229413), Child and Adolescent (match number 229415), Adult Inpatient (match number 229411) and Developmental/Assessment (match number 229414 ). Interns may apply to up to 2 tracks but can only match with one. Cover letters should explain why the applicant is applying to this program, their training goals and qualifications for the track(s) to which they are applying, and their longer term professional goals. Applicants with strong research interests should briefly describe those.
Applicants must have successfully completed 3 years of study in an APA-accredited or PCSAS accredited clinical, counseling, or school psychology doctoral program in USA before internship. In some cases we will consider applicants from programs not yet accredited (e.g., program has submitted accreditation self-study). Applicants need not be American citizens but must have authorization to be employed in training (i.e., a visa) before applying. Those currently attending a US school should not have difficulty, but those who are attending a graduate program outside the US will encounter difficulties getting a visa due to US laws. Applicants must have successfully proposed their dissertation before applying. They should have scholarly experience as demonstrated by publications and/or presentations at professional meetings. Applicants should have experience with the populations involved in the track(s) to which they are applying. Applicants should be trained in evidence-based practices. Dissertations involving original research are preferred. Interns with strong research interests are encouraged to apply.
