Mental Health Services and Outcomes Research Program
The Mental Health Services and Outcomes Research Program, led by Jane Hamilton, PhD, MPH, LCSW, aims to improve access, continuity, quality, equity and value of mental health care. Faculty members are conducting research in the areas of behavioral health care integration, mental health service utilization, mental health disparities, medication adherence, medical co-morbidities and health literacy.
Hamilton and her team conduct research in multiple clinical settings including UT Physicians Integrated Primary Care Clinics, UTHealth Harris County Psychiatric Center (HCPC) and the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD. Program faculty encourage a collaborative environment — both within the department and with community-based organizations — and engage graduate and medical students, fellows and psychiatry residents in the research.
Hamilton’s research has been funded at the local, state and national levels by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), National Cancer Institute (NCI), American Medical Association Alliance for Health Education Initiatives, Federal Children’s Bureau, Amerigroup and the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health.
