Segundo Robert-Ibarra, MD, is a child and adolescent psychiatrist and assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He provides outpatient services to children and adolescents at the Trauma and Resilience Clinic and at the UT Physicians Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic in the Texas Medical Center. Robert-Ibarra has expertise in the comprehensive assessment and treatment of severe mental health conditions, including personality disorders, psychotic disorder, mood disorders, and trauma. He has particular interests in how developmental science can help us understand and communicate therapeutically with children, adolescents, and their families, who are struggling with severe mental health disorders. He is board certified in both adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Robert-Ibarra received his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional de Asuncion, Facultad de Ciencias Medicas in Paraguay and completed his adult psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. He is trained in evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including mentalization based treatment (MBT). He has also received extensive training in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Prior to joining the department, Robert-Ibarra spent many years as a clinician and educator at Legacy Community Health in Houston. While with Baylor College of Medicine, he served as a staff psychiatrist in the HOPE Unit and the Adolescent Treatment Program (ATP) at The Menninger Clinic.
