Stem Cells for Treatment Resistant Bipolar Depression

Adjunctive Allogenic Mesenchymal Stem Cell for Treatment Resistant Bipolar Depression

Are you 18-65 years old and diagnosed with bipolar disorder? If so, you might qualify for our current Stem Cells trial.

We are looking for participants who have tried two or more mood stabilizers and not found them helpful in relieving symptoms of depression. We are assessing the antidepressant effects of a single infusion of stem cells in addition to current medications for people with bipolar disorder.

The Stem Cells used for this study are a specific type obtained from donated bone marrow and are used as a treatment for other medical conditions. You will have the chance to help us in our efforts to advance our knowledge about bipolar disorder as well as improve our approach in managing the condition.

This is a double-blind placebo controlled trial, meaning you will be assigned to one of two groups:

  • Investigational treatment arm: Receiving Stem Cells
  • Placebo arm: Receiving placebo, an inactive substance that looks the same as, and is given the same way as, the active drug or treatment being tested. The effects of the active drug are compared to the effects of the placebo.

The study involves 15 visits, 8 in-person and 7 remote, across 26 weeks.

Inclusion criteria:

  • Age 18-65 years
  • A diagnosis of bipolar disorder
  • Currently depressed
  • Poor response to two or more bipolar disorder medications (mood stabilizers)

You will receive a compensation for every visit you complete. The total that you could receive if you complete all study visits is $650.
