Who is eligible for ASUD services?
Adolescents ages 12 to 18 years are eligible for ASUD services.
What substances does ASUD address?
- Alcohol
- Cannabis (marijuana, hashish, blunt, weed)
- Tobacco/Nicotine (cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, chewing tobacco)
- Other/Novel Tobacco Products (electronic cigarettes, e-cigs)
- Hallucinogens (mushrooms, PCP, LSD, other)
- Inhalants (nitrates, gasoline, paint)
- Amphetamines (MDMA, speed, crystal, uppers, meth)
- Cocaine/Crack
- Opiates (heroin, methadone, morphine, oxy, Vicodin, narcotics)
- Benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, benzos)
- Barbiturates (downers, amytal, nembutal)
- Synthetic drugs (spice, K2, bath salts, other).
What are signs suggestive of substance misuse?
Skipped school, missed classes, or received failing grades; frequent change of friends; withdrawal from usual family bonding, routines, or activities; violations of curfews; decreased motivation, such as low productivity or neglect of personal hygiene; sudden crying spells or rapid mood swings; aggressive, inappropriate, and/or uncharacteristically defiant behavior; secretive behavior, such as whispering on the phone; acting sneaky and suspicious; changes in appearance, such as bloodshot eyes, enlarged or pin-point pupils, unexplained and sudden weight loss/gain, and skin changes.
Please note that signs of substance misuse are NOT limited to those listed above.
Who can refer to ASUD?
Parents and youth (self-referrals), pediatricians, other medical and behavioral health care providers can refer to ASUD. Use this form to referrer someone to the ASUD program. ASUD Referral Form
What happens once a referral is received?
The TCHATT/ASUD Team will reach out to the client/family to ensure that the adolescent would benefit from ASUD services, obtain consent and schedule an initial session.
How are virtual sessions conducted?
For virtual sessions, clients will need – smart phone, laptop, or PC, private space in their home or at school, an adult present in the home, or a counselor able to provide support for school settings
