This study is currently looking for people who:

  • Are 18 to 70 years of age
  • EITHER no current psychiatric disorders OR currently living with PTSD
  • No history of neurologic disease or seizure disorder
  • Willing and able to provide informed consent.

Study Description:

This study will investigate how transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) impacts the way our brains learn to fear and extinguish those fears. TMS is a tool used to non-invasively manipulate brain circuits, such as the fear learning and extinction circuit. TMS uses a magnetic coil (metal wire wound into a coil) to send pulses to stimulate your brain. This procedure does not use any radiation (x-rays), and there will be no direct physical contact with your brain. Participation in this study requires 1 initial in-person assessment to determine study eligibility. If you are eligible, you will complete 3 separate fMRI scans and 1 session of TMS. We hope that what we will learn from this study will help us improve treatment for PTSD and other anxiety disorders.
