Overview:

The UTHealth Houston Center for Interventional Psychiatry at the Faillace Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is collaborating with LivaNova, a global medical technology company, to start a new clinical trial – the “RECOVER study” – to help treat depression.

The primary objective of this study is to comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness of active VNS Therapy compared to a no-stimulation control group in achieving a significant reduction in baseline depressive symptom severity. This evaluation will be conducted using various validated depression assessment tools to ensure a robust measurement of outcomes. The assessments will be carried out at the 12-month follow-up period after randomization, allowing for a thorough analysis of the long-term impacts of VNS Therapy on depression symptoms.
