Psychiatry to host Trauma & Resilience Conference
The Louis A. Faillace, MD Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences will host the 2023 UTHealth Houston Trauma & Resilience Conference June 2 at The Intercontinental Hotel (6750 Main St.).
The theme for the 2023 conference is Elder Abuse and Mistreatment: Identification to Intervention and will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The conference will provide attendees with updates on the latest advances in elder abuse assessment and treatment of its sequelae. This will be in the context of introducing clinicians to the opportunities and challenges that identifying and caring for this population presents. The presentations will also give guidance on the ethical and effective treatments and practices when caring for the elder population.
Keynote speaker for the event is Laura Mosqueda, MD, professor of family medicine and geriatrics at the University of Southern California. Mosqueda is a widely respected authority on elder abuse and care of the elderly and underserved. She is also an expert on medical education curriculum design, development, and implantation.
The conference is divided into two sections, the first from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the second from 1:30-5 p.m. with a break for lunch in between. Each session features various discussions followed by a Q&A session.
