Honoring COVID heroes

Beginning in 2024, every March 4 in Texas will be observed as “COVID-19 Heroes and Memorial Day” under a state law passed by the Texas Legislature.
The designation honors and recognizes the contributions and sacrifices of Texans who played crucial roles during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes health care professionals, first responders, essential workers, and others who worked tirelessly to support their communities. It is also a day to remember the lives lost to COVID-19.
McGovern Medical School and UT Physicians will recognize this day at noon, March 4, in the Leather Lounge (ground floor) of the Medical School Building. All are encouraged to attend – there will be special speakers and a group photo of all of our COVID-19 heroes. There will also be a special “lookback” video that will run during the event.
