The McGovern Medical School Department of Orthopedic Surgery hosts the inaugural UTHealth Houston Spine Symposium in the Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center Hermann Conference Room (6411 Fannin St.) April 26.

The symposium is taught in collaboration by McGovern Medical School faculty in the departments of Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine. The conference aims to review and demonstrate physical therapy options and algorithms for post-operative spine patients, discuss the different operative and nonoperative options for the management of spinal stenosis, and provide evidence-based guidance in performing therapeutic epidural procedures.

The 2024 UTHealth Houston Spine Symposium features over 15, 20-minute presentations ranging from topics including an introduction to spine pain and what to do when patients present with spine pain, to how to manage the pain and surgical and non-surgical options for treatments. Following the presentations, the symposium concludes with four presentations of cases and discussion panels for various spine pain topics.
