McGovern hosts SGEA Conference
McGovern Medical School joined Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas Medical Branch in hosting the 2024 Southern Group on Education Affairs (SGEA) Annual Conference April 11-13 at the Hilton Houston Post Oak by the Galleria.
The theme for the event was “Medical Education in a Changing Climate” and brought together educators from across the continuum of medical education to discuss innovations in faculty and curriculum development, assessment of clinical skills, student support, and more.
The 3-day event featured an agenda of oral abstract presentations and workshops, as well as daily plenary lectures from renowned physicians including Gaurab Basu, MD, MPH, assistant professor at Harvard Medical School; Neil Mehta, MD, professor of medicine and associate dean for curricular affairs at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of CWRU; and Rebecca Philipsborn, MD, MPA, associate professor of pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine.
“This regional assembly facilitated meaningful exchanges among educators from over 90 medical institutions, exploring opportunities, challenges, and innovations in medical education,” said Peggy Hsieh, MEd, PhD, associate professor and assistant dean for educator development in the Office of Educational Programs. “Faculty and students from McGovern Medical School played a pivotal role, presenting their innovative projects and research findings through workshops, oral presentations, and posters, thereby amplifying the collaborative ethos and impact of the event.”
