Summer Education

The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is celebrating a successful year in 2024. SHPEP is a free summer enrichment program focused on improving access to information and resources for college students interested in the health professions.

SHPEP’s goal is to strengthen the academic proficiency and career development of students in the health professions and prepare them for a successful application and matriculation to health professions schools.

Each summer, McGovern Medical School welcomes 80 undergraduate students (40 premed) for a six-week internship beginning in early June. SHPEP is an interprofessional effort led by the McGovern Medical School, the Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston and the UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry.
