Boscutti awarded scholarship to attend ACNP
Andrea Boscutti, MD, postdoctoral research fellow in the Louis A. Faillace, MD Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, was recently awarded an American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) travel award to attend the 2024 ACNP conference in Phoenix in December.
Boscutti was awarded the highly competitive travel award after a committee reviewed more than 325 applications. The award includes waived registration fees, hotel stay, round-trip airfare, allowance for meals, and transportation. As part of the award, an ACNP member will provide mentorship to Boscutti during the conference.
In addition, Boscutti will present a poster detailing his research, which focuses on using low-intensity focused ultrasound, a novel noninvasive brain stimulation technique with emerging applications in psychiatric disorders. Low-intensity focused ultrasound can precisely target deep brain regions thanks to its high spatial resolution and depth penetration.
Boscutti’s work is centered around using an individualized targeting method to explore the effects of low-intensity focused ultrasound on the left amygdala in people with depression and anxiety. This approach addresses the limitations of traditional techniques.
“Attending the ACNP conference is a fantastic opportunity to see the latest advancements in the field and to connect with top researchers who come together to share their work,” Boscutti said. “I’m excited to present our findings and gather feedback that will help us enhance our research.”
