Mood Disorders Conference logoThe Louis A. Faillace, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences hosts the 2024 UTHealth Houston Mood Disorders Conference, Oct. 11-12 at the Cooley Life Center (7440 Cambridge St.).

The theme for the event is Bipolar Disorder Across the Lifespan and is designed for all healthcare professionals, including nurses, social workers, physicians, residents, fellows, students, and other trainees interested in learning the latest information on bipolar disorder.

The conference will explore the public health significance of bipolar disorder, starting at an early age into geriatrics, and the extent to which this may justify the development of early intervention strategies for this disorder. Disease, diagnosis, and different treatments will also be discussed during the conference.

The keynote speaker for the first session is Ariel Gildengers, MD, professor in the Department of Psychiatry and the University of Pittsburgh Medical College. Gildengers was selected as one of the Best Doctors in America by Best Doctors, Inc., and holds research interests in bipolar disorder, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias; and lithium and neuroprotection.

The keynote speaker for the second day is Allan Young, MD, PhD, chair of mood disorders and director of the Centre for Affective Disorders in the Department of Psychological Medicine in the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience at King’s College London, where he also serves as head of school for Academic Psychiatry.
