Grants 101, 102 CourseThe New Investigator Development Program (NIDP), led by the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic & Research Affairs, offers an introductory grant preparation program for junior faculty members and administrative support staff beginning with the Grants 101 course on Jan. 13. Junior faculty members who have previously attended Grants 101 may attend the follow-up program, Grants 102, which will begin Feb. 12.

Grants 101
Grants 101 provides an overview of the process of preparing and submitting a grant application from UTHealth Houston. The goal is to provide an overview of the grant process, including what is necessary to submit a grant through UTHealth Houston and the process by which the grant is processed and reviewed by funding agencies after it leaves the institution.

The Grants 101 sessions are open to anyone who would like to attend but are designed primarily for junior investigators who have not previously submitted proposals as principal investigators and for administrative support staff (e.g., DMOs, administrative assistants, department clerks, etc.) who assist faculty members with grant preparation and submission.

The course will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, and Tuesday, Jan. 14. A full outline for the Grants 101 course and a registration form are available on the NIDP website.

Grants 102
Grants 102 is an in-depth, six-month workshop and follow-up of Grants 101 for junior faculty members (instructor level minimum), during which participants develop a grant application that is peer-reviewed and ready to submit to an external agency upon completion of the program.

Prior to the start of the program, junior faculty select a senior faculty member with expertise in their area of interest as a mentor. In the past, this has most often been a senior faculty member other than the participant’s chair or direct supervisor.

The course is divided into six sessions, once per month, with session one being held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 12. A full outline for the Grants 102 course and guidelines for applying are available on the NIDP website. Registration for Grants 102 opens Jan. 14.
