LaTanya Love, MD, dean of Education, has announced David Hall, MD, associate professor of surgery, as assistant dean for Admissions and Student Affairs, effective Jan. 1.
Hall joined the McGovern faculty in 2015 and serves as an associate program director for the general surgery residency. He earned his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City and completed a general surgery residency at East Tennessee State University, and then moved to Memphis, Tenn., for fellowship training in abdominal solid organ transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery at the James D. Eason Transplant Institute.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Hall will be joining us,” said Sheela Lahoti, MD, interim vice dean for Admissions and Student Affairs. “He brings a wealth of experience and has demonstrated a true passion for working with medical students and aspiring physicians as a McGovern society leader, clinical adviser, and Joint Admissions Medical Program preceptor. He has brought infectious enthusiasm to the admission committee, and his work on the Student Evaluations and Promotions Committee has been endlessly thoughtful and insightful.”
Hall specializes in surgery of the liver, bile ducts, and pancreas, and his clinical interests included robotic-assisted hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, gallbladder cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and management of hepatic colorectal carcinoma metastasis. He is passionate about utilizing robotic techniques to perform complex operations via a minimally invasive approach and is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
